Sooooooo……I think our potty training ‘journey’ may be over for now.
Today has not been a good day. The poor old potty is lying abandoned in a corner, yet to fulfil its life’s purpose.
The Toddler is still completely resistant to the idea of the potty, all things associated with the potty and, now it seems, even the word potty. The mere mention of the potty has sent her into hysterics and forced me to address the question which has been nagging in the back of my mind: Is she simply just not ready? Have I gone too soon.
Tonight’s bath time confirmed it. (Apologies if this is TMI).
Both girls were in the bath when it suddenly became abundantly clear the Toddler needed to ‘go’. She started to get hysterical.
The Toddler: “Mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy.”
Me: “Darling do you need a poo?”
The Toddler (clearly needing to poo): “Nooooooooooo. Get me out the bath.”
Me (holding arms out to her): “Ok.”
The Toddler: “NOOOOOOO, I DON’T GET OUT THE BATH.”
Me: “Ok. Do you want to sit on the potty?”
The Toddler: “NOOOOOOOOO I DON’T WANT TO SIT ON THE POTTY.”
Me: “Ok sweetie, do you want to sit on the toilet.”
The Toddler: “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I DON’T WANT TO SIT ON THE TOILET.”
Me (smiling calmly and sweetly): “Ok. But if you don’t want to go on the potty and you don’t want to go to the toilet where are you going to go?”
The Toddler: “I WANT TO DO A POOP ON MOMMY.”
Yeah kiddo, you’re not ready. Definitely not ready.
